Elkland Gymnasium Project

Elkland School Gymnasium was built circa 1934 to service the bygone Elkland School constructed in the late1800’s. Built on a natural hill that was terraced in the 1950’s during the construction of the brick school below it, the gymnasium tier was recently regraded to better control drainage.

Elkland Gymnasium was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004

Twin west-facing double doors with a ticket window between them are the main entrance to the gym. The building was recently stripped of lead paint and recoated by hand with a high quality exterior latex.

Work is progressing to stabilize the gymnasium. After the initial steps of grading, work on the standing seam steel roof and painting the exterior, we are emptying the interior of 30 years of accumulation in order to repair the rotted rear sill and rotted flooring, both victims of water damage.
